  • Davis-Pazienza

How would a fight between Howard Davis, who didn't live up to expectations, and Vinny Pazienza, who probably surpassed expectations, if they were to fight in 1987?

I would have given the edge to Paz personally. Howard might have been the better boxer but when it came down to "fighting" Pazienza would have the edge. Davis never transended his amateur success to the pro's and the way he fell short in the Watt and Rosario fights makes me give the somewhat limited* lightweight in Vinny Paz this vote.

*I respect Pazienza and his career but as a lightweight and junior welterweight I alway felt he was limited.

Paz was totally outboxed by the short and stubby-armed Greg Haugen in their second fight, and that would make you think the rangy and swift Davis would handle him even easier. But, Davis was a very inconsistent performer with a questionable chin....and just like was mentioned earlier, he found a way to lose his more important fights and I bet Paz would will himself to victory.

I'm going to go with Howard Davis in this one.

I'm presuming we are going off the assumption the best Howard Davis will turn up in the ring? If so, I see him crusing to a descion.

Roger Mayweather talks about how fast Davis is which is true. He had lighting fast handspeed.

He has good skills and vastly better skills than Vinny Paz but he tends to lack concentration and things of that nature. That will in my opinion make the fight closer than it should be.

But either way Davis still gets the descion. IMO.
