In boxing the term chin is used more as a broad term for punch resistance. And of course its no ones fault that they aren't able to take punches that is something that for the most part is god given
I just think that its unfair to downplay his chin because he got brain damage. HE took the shots well, it was just a freak occurance that sadly happens from time to time and the fighters chins dont have alot to do with it.
Nah, Im goin to disagree. The shots he ate from Kessler was impressive, no doubt, but he was dropped by a head shot from Bute and also was hurt and dropped against Yusaf Mack.
What impressed me most about that performance was the number of flush shots Andrade took in combination from Kessler. Kessler was knocking his head from left to right to left to right, allowing him no real time to roll with the shots beyond the first one.
I know Mack KDed him and Bute caught him with a headshot that dropped him before the stoppage, but that one performance right there was supernatural, freakishly amazing.
I would say that pre-Cotto Margarito had a better chin in terms of modern day fighters.
Margarito has (had maybe?) a very good beard as well. In fact it was considered one of the best before the Mosley stoppage. I don't think he ever had a fight like the Kessler one though, where his head looked like it was literally being used as a speedbag by a precision hard hitting opponent over twelve rounds. The Pac fight obviously has some simlarities, but Pac was a smaller man moving up and Margarito was blocking and leaning in to a lot of the blows.
Despite being dropped numerous times, mainly due to his terrible defence and the long term cumulative effects of taking flush punches on the jaw, I rank Ricardo Mayorga's chin very highly. In his prime he took some hellacious bombs, even invited opponents to hit him. Not quite in the upper echelon, but worthy of a mention IMO. It kept him in fights a lesser chinned fighter would have wilted in, since Mayorga was, uh, lacking in quite a few of the other attributes needed at the top level.
