In the Tua vs the greats thread I was finding a lot of iformation online about Marcino having bad vision and burning eyes during the fight. It could have been something they used on Marcinao's cut by the sounds of it.

I think Marciano's era may have been stronger. I think I have seen enough evidence that the sport was more popular. I think how popular a sport is determines the particapiction in the sport.

While I don't think Lewis' era was great, I think that Marciano's was relatively weak. If you need a breakdown I can make one. I just don't think Marciano faced big hitters like Ruddock, Tua, Bruno, etc. And I think the Holyfield that fought Lewis was better than any of Rocky's opponents.

I think I have seen evidance that boxing was a more pouplar sport when Marciano was fighting. I think If a sport has a lot of fans more people play the sport because they like it. I think there was more talent being produced while Marciano fought.

although Marciano did clean out his division, a lot of his opponents(while very good at the time) did not go on to do much of anything.

Lewis beat more top competition than Marciano, and in particular his final fight against Vitali turned out to be one of his most significant since Vitali did end up taking over the division and did a lot even after his first retirement. also a lot of the other top guys he beat ended up being relevant in the future.

He also lost to some not so great competition, I don't think that should be looked over. And its not like he out classed Vitali.

Marciano's era was watered down because there was a shortage of boxers following the war.

Thats why Marciano fought so many fossils like Joe Louis and Walcott, these were guys who were pro BEFORE 1939.

From 1939-1945 there was no new blood coming into the sport. Hence, crappy era.

I dont care that much about losses when it comes to ATG ranking. especially seeing as he avenged both losses.
its who you can beat that matters to me, and overall Lewis beat better competition.

beating Vitali is a great win, regardless of how dominant it was.

                    ^^^It wasn't a past-prime Tyson Lewis fought? Since you're talking about Louis being washed-up.

oh, definitely. thought it went without saying, but Ill go ahead and edit it.

Tyson and Louis were both still pretty highly rated in their divisions, despite being obviously past their best, however.
