Exactly. At 135, Floyd wasn't the infighting virtuoso he is now. He was still effective at mid to long range, but inside, he didn't know what to do. After the Castillo fight, he picked up some good tricks that served him later on, especially against Hatton. But I think that pre-Castillo Mayweather gets run out of the ring. At 140...not sure. That fight is too close to call.
You should see his (Mayweather) fight against Jesus Chavez, he had problems there too with relentless pressure. That should bother those who back him against a lightweight Chavez or Duran. Both of those would be 50/50 fights and Floyd at lightweight was one of the most talented ever, but its just something to pay attention to.

Volume punchers will eventually land, even if they have to take 8 punches to land 1. Pryor had a style that seems to be a nightmare for a fighter that needed room to operate. Remember Floyd against Emanuel Agustus?

Henry Armstrong would be relentless and could quite possibly take the rhythm out of his stride.

Well, if there's one thing this thread proves is that if there's anyone that gets overrated it's Floyd. That and he has plenty of mush brained idiots willing to drink his KoolAid.

I'd give Escalera and De La Hoya no chance to beat Floyd. People forget that Oscar was a protected fighter until he got to 147. He beat pretty weak opposition at 135.

what? Ruelas was one of the best guys at Lightweight when DLH knocked him out, and Hernandez was a very good fighter as well. He missed out on fighting Gonzalez and Nazarov, but he ended up beating Gonzalez at 140lbs not long after moving up from 135. Chavez was definitely past prime, but still a top player in the division when DLH beat him.

              hardly weak opposition.

Amazing that an old out of shape De La Hoya came within one round of beating a prime Mayweather, yet De La Hoya in his prime couldn't.

By the way I can think of at least 40 fighters in history between 135 and 147 pounds that would have beat Mayweather, just in the last 20 years.

Saddler could do something with him at 130 if he doesn't get DQd. Whitaker is the most sure-fire competitive matchup. Meldrick Taylor would also be interesting.

Ruelas had a nice record, but no chin. But that was an impressive KO. Hernandez never won a fight at 135 and went in with a broken nose. And Chavez had been cut in training as well.

I was probably was too harsh on Oscar, but he never saw anything like Floyd Mayweather at 135.

Oscar was a beast at 135 & 140lbs to claim he has no chance is unjust hating on the guy the same go's for these guys who claim Pryor has no chance, the reality is that Pryor was the greatest 140lber who ever lived and i would take him to overwhelm floyd in a one-sided fight
