I personally think it should be a DQ win for Ruiz.

Not seeing the comparison. In a draw the fighter has to go the distance and make the fight close. In a NC, the champ could lose each and every round leading up to a partial fight (that he would've lost and perhaps didn't even throw a punch to end the fight.) I don't know, seems like you'd have to evaluate the NCs individually. The Hopkins fight, you could argue he did everything right, was winning the fight, and wasn't at fault for what happened. But others, I'm not so sure about.

A no contest shouldn't count as a title defense. But on the other hand, if you get paid and leave the ring with the title, it is successful on some levels.

agreed. Often you might hear something like, "he is 10-0 with 1 NC in title bouts".
I personally do well others might not. Either way I would not count it a "successful" title defence.

neither would i,but like jim jeffries said a few posts back you have too look at individual examples, which can make it hard for anything too be set in stone

Tim Bradley's first defense of the WBO JWW title vs. Nate Campbell. Originally ruled WTKO3, later changed to NC3. Do you count that as a title defense?

I disagree. Once the bell ending the fights sounds a fighter should not be able to be disqualified. A no contest is the only thing left that makes sense in my opinion.

I disagree. Guys like Resto, Toney, all of the cheats should be given DQ retroactively. They cheated. Why reward them with a NC? Because they got away with it during the fight?

Itll certainly be counted as a title defense if youre promoting the fighter.

but I dont think its legitimate in any way.
but, title defenses dont really mean much anyway, more about who you beat.
