I think pre Liston Patterson's speed and movement makes him very live against a post ban Ali, but I agree with you prime for prime, it'd be difficult for Floyd to overcome the size disadvantage against someone who matches or beats him in virtually every category.

        Do you agree with Cus?
No, though the Patterson of five years previous to their first encounter would do a lot better than many would predict, & strangely as it goes, would be more competitive than either Liston or Foreman with the Ali of 65-67.

Patterson couldnt hurt Ali, period. I love Floyd but he was one of the last of his kind in the HW division..once Liston came in bigger men sorta took over like Ali and Foreman.

Put me on the list of those who give Patterson (on his best day) ZERO chance of beating Ali in 1965. Hardly surprising that D'Amato would have those sentiments.

I'm not so sure about this. Patterson could hurt anybody if he can hit them.

I do agree though that after Patterson the era of smaller guys being a dominant force in the heavyweight division was over.

Thats very true WBY but at the same time LESS likely to win! Weird.

I am a patterson fan but this sounds just like excuses from cus. I do find it odd how slow patterson looked in the 1st ali fight but hey, maybe ali was just that much faster.

No, Patterson was past it. Also a bad style matchup.

Now, we all know the level of Cus boxing IQ. Why are so many of you disagreeing with Cus? This was after Ali's best fights were behind him and Cus knew Ali well and still had this opinion.

Do you believe that Cus is simply saying this because Floyd was his boy? Or because he truly believed it?
Did you just say that Patterson was better than George Foreman?

                      Not to mention Sonny Liston?
