  • The Boxing Myths and Conspiracy Thread

This is a thread to expose and discuss some myths and share our opinions on conspiracy theories like for example Ali vs Liston 2, did Sonny dive??? And if so Why?

    I submit this,

Jack Johnson claimed he dived against Jess Willard out of ego and pride. He surely wouldnt have went 26 rounds in the heat before throwing the fight, he had been troubled by body shots in the rounds leading up to the finish and was in less the perfect condition against a huge man in Willard. The shielding his eyes from the sun thing does nothing for me either, fighters often lose control of their bodys and arms afdter being KO'd, i believe it was totally involuntary.

Also just a question about the heat, how hot was it supposed to be? I notice most of the crowd are rockin jackets!?

Johnson was comfortably winning if I remember right, haven't seen the fight in a while, he was well out of shape, barely trained and was getting on a bit in age, where as Willard turned up in great shape prepared to go the distance, I'm guessing it was more out of exhaustion then a KO or dive and that he just didn't have it in him to continue because of his situation with, well, everything and everyone so he stayed down, could be seen as a dive as he probably could of gotten up.

He's definately a better fighter in my eyes than Willard but on the day like u say he wasnt prepared and Jess was, exhaustion must have played a part but that big right hand had him out imo, clean shot.

He was past prime by the time he became champion, there isn't footage of him in his prime.

-Sonny Liston was a quitter & a bully who would fold if anyone stood tall against him.

            -Joe Louis had poor footwork.

            -Tommy Hearns' jaw was glass.

-Roberto Duran knocked out a horse.

            -Joe Calzaghe is HOF-material ( )

              Waiting for JoeyZags rebuttle

I wouldn't say Louis has poor footwork but in some fights/instances it was very poor.

Another one would be that Mike Tyson was an infighter or that Leonard's style was fleetfooted/classic boxer.

Theres the whole Walker/Greb nightclub incident.

I heard a disgusting story about Duran and a lion that I sure hope was a myth.
