Well I probably won’t need to watch out for her, because everybody probably thinks I’m ‘woke’, whatever the **** that means, just for the simple crime of wanting a bloody class revolution in which the ordinary people completely destroy corporations just to get some passable living standards.

If she’s just a *******, though, then I probably will avoid her, cos that’s nowhere near hardcore enough for me.

You can say what you want around me, though. I might call you completely wrong or I might not, but there’s not much point getting really vexed at fellow ordinary people with little power over how society goes (yet).

Ah! A proud embracement of unreasonableness - I should introduce you to my daughter.

Re the boldface: So how has that worked out historically speaking?

With each passing epoch we have moved closer to that ideal, not away further from it. It is coming, no need to blow it all up just now.

It’s not really that unreasonable to want the people around me - even if I’m opposed to their politics - to have a better standard of living than poverty, and for ordinary people to have the biggest say in how their lives are governed. Instead, we elect representatives who pretend to be on opposite sides of the political spectrum, but whose actions actions betray a desire to keep many issues outside of ********ic control and retain the status quo at all costs.

The people holding power are not going to simply give away their ability to rig society in their favour.

If you’re asking for successful revolutions, I would argue the French Revolution worked out well overall in the long-term thanks to the enshrining of civil rights for people, eventually people of all colours, and the fact that these ideals spread beyond French borders. On the downside, lots of ordinary people, the kind the revolution was supposed to be for, lost their lives as suspected enemies of the revolution.

I don’t discount these fatalities by any means, but I will say that when you’re asking my opinion on how revolutions have worked out, the answer’s complex. Every revolution in history has had positives, even against a backdrop of horrific negatives.
