Not really if you think about it. He had all of Jim Jacobs and Bill Cayton's resources available to him as well as all of D'Amato's knowledge. Whats crazy is how open minded and understandable he was of film from earlier era's. Its that open mindedness that makes him such an astute historian in my opinion

Yeah, and I feel like Mike's knowledge is kind of going to waste. I wish we'd regularly see him on programs like on ESPN classic sharing his knowledge or maybe some other kind of boxing history program which likely won't ever be.

I agree but still, he is what? Roughly 20 years old here? To think, even with the resources, a guy at the age of 20 knowing what he knows and the way its just all off the back of his hand, as soon as the interviewer mentioned Kid Lewis Mike immediatly was refering to particular fights and how they happened, i just find that unbelivable for a person of such a young age.

Cus had a big collection of old fight film footage at his home in Catskills. Tyson would train by day and watch reels and reels of film after dinner......that's why his knowledge is so vast.

Yes i know this but still you give a 20 year old kid the footage etc its still pretty incredible the amount he knows about the history of the sport off the top of his head, even specifics that people that have been studying the sport for numerous years wouldnt know off the top of thier head, it's incredible.

Makes me believe he could have been a great student in school.

Mike was incredibly knowledgeable about boxing. He especially admired the short, old time battlers like Dempsey, Canzoneri, Kid Chocolate, etc. Maybe because he was like them himself. He was sort of like a second coming of Dempsey.
