I remember Hearns injuring his hand (was it a fracture?) against Benitez, which is to his credit having won, but I just always felt those slight feints & shoulder-shifts setting up the counter-shot had long gone unappreciated by judges by the time Benitez arrived on the scene, & he never seemed to get his due in the big fights for the subtlety of his defense.

I know I'm in the minority in scoring the fight even, though, & I'll admit it's been a good few years since I sat down with it & a pad & pen.

Manny is a great fighter and I do like him, but is he really that exciting of a fighter? He throws a lot of punches, but he doesn't have that one punch devastation that makes fights so fun to watch. Tito could knock you dizzy with one shot, so could Hearns. Manny just doesn't have that appeal.

you never see that famous left hand???
the left hand who make morales take a knee??
the left hand that make barerra, marquez, hatton, etc kiss the canvas??
i agree in WW now ther a guy who can handle manny power like margarito or turtle clottey. but in FW division no one can handle manny power.

and its just not, manny fast combo make him exciting it his whole body movements mnake him fun to watch.

At Feather, yes...Pacquiao had the one-shot KO power he now somewhat lacks.

I'll take Naz vs Pacquaio please! The atmosphere in their after all Hamed's pre fight talk and wild enterance would be insane!

Pac should be the Favourite but when Manny was at that weight he wasnt the skilled box fighter he is these days and The Prince was the hardest hitting fighter on the planet p4p and had the speed and unorthadox style to land so u never know!??

Funny how different people see the same fight. I thought Benitez barely won a handful of rounds against Hearns, who looked in control throughout. Benitez had great defence, but his problem in this and several other fights was he often lacked sufficient offence to go with it. Larry Merchant's comment in the final round that Benitez would need a double KO to win summed it up for me.

They'd both be dynamite, but there's a chance that Hearns just boxes Tito's ears off and wins an easy UD, so I'll go with Pac-Hamed. I actually think that Hamed has a better chin (his balance isn't so good, but he's tough as hell to actually hurt). He also has superior power, although Pacquiao at 126 was a very hard hitter. Pacquiao has the advantage in hand and footspeed and that's not really very close. I think Hamed catches Pacquiao a couple of times with a big left hand, but Pacquiao lands good 1-2's throughout the fight and wins a close (7-5 type) UD.

I also thought that Hearns won a clear decision in a very boring fight, especially having to follow the legendary Gomez-Pintor was on the PPV. Nobody ever outboxed Tommy Hearns.

Very hard one, but I'd lean towards Pacquiao vs Hamed. What a fight that would of been.

Pac vs Hamed would be a PPV bonanza - and rightly so. But Pac's best wasn't at Hamed's weight. Back then his defence and guard were very sloppy and he relied solely on reflexes (and the ability to take a shot). He also would be without the extra power he has gained since he's moved up the weights. Hamed was put down a few times, but I'm struggling to recall when I actually saw him hurt badly. Mostly it was because of his poor balance overextending after a punch.

I find it hard to believe that anyone lacking a solid defence could beat a prime Hamed (which was around the time of the Steve Robinson title fight). Sooner or later Manny would get tagged and then he'd be in trouble. Sure, he has a good chin - but Hamed was one of the most chilling finishers in modern boxing history. If he got you with time on the clock the fight was usually over.

Of course, Manny is unquestionably the better fighter taken over both careers. But if we're talking about a fight under very specific circumstances the Prince would have the advantage purely because it took Pac several years to develop into being the fully rounded fighter he is and at Hamed's weight he still had a way to go.

Pacquiao whooping Hamed like he did Barera would be something. Well I don't know really if that would happen but, I'd say I'd watch Trinidad Hearns!
