  • Todays fighters that fight like the old timers

I think this would be a good topic. Maybe the modern and old guys can befriend eachother a bit.

If you notice like I did, there are fighters who fight like the boxers from the earlier days. In the stance that Bernard Hopkins and Floyd Mayweather JR. use, hands low, wide footwork etc. I really think Shane Mosley fights like the boxers from the 40s and 50s etc. Another good example is Vitali Klitschko I believe. Even from tonight we saw Froch with the same kind of style.

Andre Ward has a very physical, crafty, dirty style reminiscent of some of the old timers. Certainly fights like a guy with much more experience than his 20 or so pro fights would suggest.

James Toney although he's not very relevant anymore

Andre Ward's probably the best example of a younger generation fighter

Miguel Vazquez too, he's a pretty crafty guy that uses a lot of feints and angles...I hardly see fighters use feints properly anymore

Good ones. Also, are there any guys from recent history, like Toney for instance, that get to fight as often as boxers of yesteryear, like every month or every two weeks? Or is that not something managers allow anymore after early in someone's career.

I'd like to know of any of today's fighters who box like legendary Beau Jack. BJ was known for his relentless slugging and he was VERY popular in NYC during the 40s for his fearless and reckless style. Back in the 70s/80s Aaron Pryor was often equated with him for using this style.

Who in today's boxing would you say uses this relentless type of fighting?

I would say as of recent Ricky Hatton came the closest.

                  Green K for this one.
I gotta watch some more Benton fights. He was quite skilled.
