I hear he didn't even start boxing until age 28...and had a good college degree to boot. As a man I think he was extremely impressive. Won the heavyweight title. He was tremendously strong, had good power, a fantastic chin, and was mega aggressive. Like a watered down Foreman Imo.

He went the distance with a prime Mike Tyson. And he destroyed Tim Witherspoon for his WBA title. Sure he's not an all time great, but he's a solid fighter with a good record.

It it widely believed that Witherspoon took a dive in that fight in order to get out of his contract with Don King.

Witherspoon looks like he isn't even trying.

Yeah, there are rumors, but that's how it goes into the record books. He did beat Mike Weaver.

Im not trying to take anything away from Smith as he is an admirable man. But the fight with Spoon probably wasn't on the up and up so I find it hard to say he destroyed him, that is all. For a guy who started so late he had a pretty good career.

Well, "destroyed" probably wasn't the right word, but even so, it was an upset. But Bone Crusher did resort to some boring tactics in the Tyson fight. What with the onstant clinching and all. I read that newspaper reports dubebd him "Bone Clutcher" the next day.

He only went the distance because he held the entire time. Tyson should have went to the body more, but Smith disgraced himself by not even fighting. He was beat by Witherspoon the first time, but the second time Witherspoon was distracted and over weight in that fight. That's mostly why he was knocked down 3 times. He was not destroyed at all, watch the fight again. Paul Williams, now that is destroyed. lol Smith was an alright fighter but not worth mentioning, ever.
