I will state one thing more too, the bigger the better theory is one of the worst things to happen to heavyweight boxing. After a certain weight you can never put your whole body into your punches anyway. The fascination with big heavy men being better is the reason the heavy weight boxing scene is so dull.
Not often i agree with you but your spot-on with this post.

i think that joe had a better jab,it was thrown with well timed accuracy, and the technique used[doubling up] was very new at that time, however wlads jab is slow and yes it is very clumsy it does have power to it which is why i think that wlad would disscect joe into submission and tear him apart if they were to fight, wlad is 6ft 5 well over 240 pounds, joe was under 6ft 190 pounds dressed to the tilt, wlad would be able to knockout everyone of the top ten heavies from the 50s era all on the same night

Good to see some mutual respect!

        Agreed!

I remember a few years ago my Father having a glimpse at the TV at me watching Ali vs Liston 1. I think it was round 3!

He has never been anything more than a very casual observer of the sport, but what he said made me chuckle.....'Why dont the heavyweights fight like that anymore?'

My answer: 'they're too big and heavy!!!'

It has to be Louis. Arguably the best jabber in heavyweight history. That said I dont think Wlad is far behind. He really controls the fight with it and that punch in combination with his physical frame makes him unbeatable today. I think it's very likely that Wlad's jab will be in the top 4 once he retires.

I agree. And in Adameks case his biggest problem will be the inability to get Wlad's respect. There's no way he wont get outclassed.

I've always liked Adamek, but I'd give him considerably less chance than Haye or Povetkin. Just a really bad style matchup for the Pole. I get the impression that his people know that too.

Glad we agree on something. Louis had one of the best jabs of all time. Wlad is good, undoubtedly good, but I don't think he is on Louis's level. That however doesnot say anything ill of Wlad's ability.Infact being compared to the Brown Bomber in that respect is an honour.

Joe Louis often weighed over 205 pounds my mate...His peak weigh was 207 and today he will easily weigh 220 pounds. Put Wlad in the 1940's and he will weigh no more than 220. Max Baer had as huge a chest, arms as Wlad and weighed 210 pounds. Plus Joe put to sleep tougher and naturally (bone structure wise) bigger men than Wlad , whose chin is suspect to say the least. Wlad's workrate is not great, he panicks when attacked andhe has never faced a great counterpuncher in his life (which Louis, Walcott, Charles was). That slow jab of Wlad, will be ducked, parried and countered all day long by those "small" heavyweights. Against todays giants, with straigh up stance and no parrying ability its another story though.
