This is an assumption with no factual basis. When was he ducking him, in 2000 when Vits quit against Byrd? 2001 when Vits wasn't even in the year end ratings? Or 2002 when he fought Tyson, who EVERYONE wanted including Vitaly?

        Wasn’t Vitali mandatory?

Even if he were, where is the duck? I believe he may have been the number one contender at that point, but Lewis had the right (as every champion has) to take another fight beforehand. He wasn't going to be stripped if he fought Johnson and not Vits. There was no duck.

Sounds like you are on the team that says Canelo isn't ducking Benavidez.

I always want to see the best fight the Best. The difference between Vits and Benavidez is Vits hadn't even beaten a ring ranked top 10 fighter to that point and hadn't been in the Rings rating very long previously. Benavidez has been the Rings number one contender for 5 years. If Vits had been undefeated, beating other ring ranked fighters for that long you better believe I'd say Lewis was ducking him. Klitschko fans hate to hear this, but Vits dug a hole for himself when he quit against Byrd and didn't rematch him. Even if untru it made him look like he was unworthy when you couple that with the competition he was fighting.

I guess we'll never know since he wasn't fighting them. I can name the fighters better than Donald, Bean, Norris, Puritty and Hoffman though. That's a pretty weak lineup for one to assume you just automatically deserve a shot at the champ. I know you can see the difference between that and Benavidez situation.

                      - - 8+3 = 11 weeks training camp for Lewie vs Vit who took the fight on 2 weeks notice. He wasn't in full Lewie training before that because he obviously had to fight other heavies while Lewie was ducking both him and his previous two judgements in the US courts ordering Lewie to fight Vit if he fought in the US.
