You miss the fact that a decent fighter can win fights against opponents who aren't as good even when not prime.
Tyson didn't have a good win after he came out of prison, the last win he had against what could be called a live body was against Ruddock
So maybe he was slightly removed from his prime , Golota was not a live body when he was brutally stopped by Tyson ? Ali can be claimed to have had a 10years prime. The same for Holyfield , Wlad and Vitali.
But I agree on a 10 years is usually (meaning not always) longer than a fighter's prime period.

I think Golota apart from giving Bowe problems never lived up to his promise, remember Grant beat him before Tyson did.

Brutally stopped, that phrase rings a bell!

Ali and Vitali can't really be prime when not fighting can they?

Happy if you want to say Wlad has been prime for 10 years that would mean he lost to Brewster, Purritty and Sanders when prime then?

Holyfield you could make a case for being a live body for 10 years for sure rather than prime.

Joe Louis who you omitted (not big enough?), held the heavyweight title for 11 years but I doubt even the most rabid Louis fans would say he was prime for more than 5 of them

The Puritty fight was over 11 and a half years ago, which is why I find it absurd when people try and use it to bolster their argument that Wlad is a bum.

But yeah all fighters age differently, reach their prime at different ages and hold it for different periods of time. And 10 years would be the exception, rather than the norm.

To be honest I'm hard pressed to think of any fighter who had a ten year prime at least as far as I define prime.

For me, prime is from when a fighter's body and reflexes have reached full maturity AND they've aqquired the skills and experience to make full use of it; lasting until their reflexes start to decline. Prior to that period they're green and after that period they're past-prime. They become shot when their reflexes are fully gone or have declined to the point where they might as well be. I've seen fighters who were shot by their mid-20s and I've seen fighters who's primes lasted until their mid-30s: It just depends on the invidiual.

          • Prime for prime, Tyson KO's Tua. His skills were better and he had more speed.

Of course either one of those guys could end the fight but Tyson was overall a better boxer.

Maybe not that much brutally , I watched it again now.
And Tyson did not outdid Lewis against him.

Hiatuses are not warps in time dimension , are they ?

Then maybe almost 10 but he will reach 10 years of prime and probably more. At least against Sanders he was prime , not saying he wasn't against Puritty .

Then really close to prime satisfies you ?

I thought about him but I knew he was not prime for all of that time , so I deliberately didn't mention him.

Will admit I didn't look, time flies!
I'm not the one trying to say Wlad has been prime for 10 years

OK I think i'll leave it that you don't really know the concept of what is a prime fighter.
I'll have one more attempt, who would win out of the Tyson that beat Seldon and the Tyson that beat say Biggs?

I'd agree with that, IMO a fighters prime is generally for about 2 to 3 years.

                      An exaggeration .
Only dumb fighters have a prime that short.
