I think it all hinges from not fighting Bowe, and i'm sure with the exclusion of the WBC's influence, the fight would have happened.. This is the crux of it, because like you, I think Bowe would have won.. This would have turned Lewis's agenda from a progressive rise through the division, into a slugfest for supremacy.. In effect, it would have thrown a much greener version of Lewis in with other lions, ie; much better versions of Holyfield and Tyson, which would have either made him or broke him..

i agree... we will never know just how good Lewis was because he never had those career defining fights yet it was down to Lewis the reason those fights never materialized, IMO the Lewis camp was well aware of how much Rid**** Bowe had improved as a pro under the guidance of Eddie Futch and they was quite happy to get the WBC belt and defend it against a bunch of tomato cans and swell their bank accounts doing so with very little risk, after the McCall lose they never again risked their man against an experienced contender who was at the top of his game.

Tyson beat prime Michael Spinks, Trevor Berbick, Tony Tucker, Bruno, Ruddock, Tubbs.

Marciano beat prime Rex Layne and Harry Mathews who was a top contender on a 9yr win steak of over 50 fights

Most of these names are not top 30 big, which seems to be the standard when judging Lewis. On top of that they all have glaring flaws that would dismiss them as quality if they were on Lennox's resume'

Jesse Willard was 37 years old and certainly not prime. Spent 3 years in inactivity ducking contenders before being thrown to a 23 yr old buzzsaw

Spinks was a bloated 31 year old LHW who was the heaviest of his career and couldnt move.

Sharkey had 5 losses when he fought Dempsey. Sharkey couldnt defend or hold a belt if they glued it to his hands

Harry Matthews is yet another LHW on Marcianos resume'. If Rock wouldve dropped to 175 hed be the greatest LHW of all time! Rex Layne isnt top 30 so he doesnt count as a prime great win.

Willard was the heavyweight champion of the world, he lost to Dempsey then went and beat the excellent Floyd Johnson putting on one of his best career performances.. you dont know nothing about this sport of boxing, absolutely zero..to claim that Jack Sharkey was not in his prime when Dempsey beat him is laughable.. Sharkey after losing to Dempsey beat Schmeling, Carnera, Walker, Loughran, Young Stribling and a host of top contenders... you claim Dempsey never fought blacks and i said that it was because non of the black fighters in that era was good enough to be put in with Dempsey, Jack used those black fighters as sparring partners and they was just `Dog meat` for him.

Lewis resume is full of tomato cans and fighters who was years past their best and you are trying your best to make it look as if he beat the best fighters in the world from 92-03 when the truth is he never fought a single opponent who was at the top of their game... unlike all the other heavyweight champions.
