arreola, and sam peter are heavy weight contenders,so please tell me 1 guy that joe fought who would pose a challenge to them.these are big mean, strong guys who can take a punch and they come to fight.which is more than you can say for 97% of louis foes

Boxing is the only sport where athletes/competitors get worse as generations go by.

You don't think Louis fought big mean strong guys who could take a punch?

The likes of Peter and Arreola would fit perfectly well into Louis's "bum of the month" club. Except the majority of the "bums" Louis fought actually turned up in shape to fight.

What you fail to take note of is that boxing is the one sport where the athleticism of the participants is the LEAST important factor. You also left out that boxing is the one of the very few sports where the equipment used by the participants hasn't changed in the last 70 years: It's still two padded gloves and a canvas clad ring.

I would also point out that I fail to see where NBA players today are superior in any way to those that played in the 1980s. There was all this talk about how MLB players were so much better these days but what happend when they took away their steroids? Their power numbers went into the crapper.....go figure.

They all came to win, with more determination than you see today. Sam Peter especially looked like he did not even care about the fight with Vitali due to getting millions of dollars regardless of how he performed. He ended up quitting on his stool. The men who fought Louis were given a once in a lifetime chance at being rich and famous.

Max Baer went for the KO, his 51 career KO's being proof of that, so did his brother Buddy who was 6'6, 250 lbs and had a record of 51 wins, 47 knockouts.
6'5, 255 lb Abe Simon was diagnosed as being impervious to pain.

Quitting on your stool has become an accepted practice these days when you're way behind in a fight. The days when fighters would rather die than run up a white flag are LONG gone I'm afraid. Sometimes those guys would score the miracle KO that made the scorecards irrelivent. It's rare to see that now in a lopsided fight as they'd rather pull their own plugs than keep gunning until the final bell.
