  • What do people match up fighters

    in fantasy match ups?

I know its fun and dont wanna kill the fun but realistically you cant compare fighters from today to fighters from 100years ago

Surely todays fighters will beat fighters from the era of the great Joe Louis?

I know im proberbly gonna get bashed but 2010 Chris Arreola will beat a prime Joe Louis...

This is because the sport has changed from what it once was, so you cant compare the two anyway

I never really comment on fantasy match ups but i do my history and list fighters in a top 10,20 etc due to accomplishments and resume

Yes boxing has changed.. It's progressively got easier over the years, with less active professionals, more world titles and less rounds in championship fights..
Other than that, it's the same as it's always been - two guys hitting each other with leather gloves on, which these days are a lot more comfy to get hit with..
Don't mean to shatter your illusions, but Joe Louis may have killed Arreola had he been around back then, and the reason people compare fighters from different era's is because there really is an awful lot to compare.. Especially styles wise..
Another interesting factor, is that a lot of fighters from the past didn't give a damn about weight difference.. People like Jamaica Joe Walcott used to fight and beat heavyweights, but he was 5'1" a weighed around 140lbs, so match up between him and a lot of fighters would make for a good debate..

          wow...

I know nothing about the sport of boxing? I will admit I am only 15.. im learning

but to say I dont know nothing about the sport of boxing is being ignorant

I box and I boxed competively, I do compete against top amateurs around so for you too say I dont know nothing about the sport is silly.

And in terms of history of the sport, I am learning.. I havent even been alive for long so relax and dont lose to much hair "sonny"

Why do you keep repeating your play ground theory stuff... ?

Because too many poster on Boxing Scene (I'm not saying you're one of them, just that there are many posting here) that are what I refer to as "size whores". They have a caveman mentality regarding boxing ie. "Ugg.....Fighter A bigger than Fighter B......Fighter A win.....ugg." They gave a logical fallacy that reduces the sport to an absurd degree.

I still find it incredible that people think this way. People have been fighting forever. Do you think that a champion fighter from Classical Greece or a top fighter from 16th C Japan wouldn't have done well in MMA?

If there was a tournament I think they would be odds on favorites to meet in the finals.

Boxing's rules have changed over the years but the sport is the same: hit and not be hit. A lot of the techniques we think are revolutionary are just reformatting earlier techniques.

Outside of time off, allowing to recuperate from injury and looking at video there is nothing that current fighters have over fighters from 50 years ago. Take away the video, or let old-timers (Joe Louis) study videos of Arroeola and you're right back to the basics: hit and not be hit.
