I respect Lennox a great deal, but Joe Louis would be too much for him. He'd use his perfect technique to parry or block Lewis's jab AND he'd get inside. Lewis has a B chin and Joe has A* power.

People need to remember that Louis was a vicious puncher and awesome with his combinations. His hands were fast too.

Peaks, Joe Louis would spark Lennox in like 6 or 7.

Post primes, Lennox may win a decision IF he can keep Joe off. But peak Joe was too strong and had too much stamina to get kept away for 12 or 15.

Lou Duva who followed boxing from he was a boy in the 1930s and was a close friend of Rocky Marciano and who trained 19 world champions is wrong and you are right yeah.

Lewis is like Carnera in almost every way

lennox reach would be his biggest advantage in this fight, but if louis can get past his jab, he would KO him.
and lewis showed he has weak recover abilities, he was knocked down twice in his career, both times he was counted out.
even if he gets up against louis, he would still be half dazed and louis would knock him down again.

agreed, for a good part of his career lewis was extremely easy to hit and had awful footwork. he relied way too much on his power.

The poll is just about even.Just as it should be.

This is a toss up fight.

eh, i've seen polls that were 60/40 louis over vitali klitschko. i just don't see it being that close. i like lennox and vitali, i consider myself a great fan of both, but i think they're just a little out of their league here.

oh gimmi a break will ya, I respect Lou,s experience and his opinions but he's not right about this one....... Well maybe to a certain degree in that they are similar height, weight and reach. But that is where it ends! Lewis was much more powerfull. just look at some of caneras fights, he hits like an old woman. No snap and no idea how to get his weight behind the punch! Also lewis was way faster, way better on his feet and 1000 times better boxer. more so when he has a challenge in front of him.

he only got complacent when he was undertrained and overconfident. Canera would have got blasted by the likes of holyfield, Klit, tyson and even Tua! Look at it like this most experts have Lewis in their top 10 ATG heavyweights and as far as Lou Duva goes he said lots of negative things about Lewis prior to golota v Lewis (who was his fighter) and prob had sour g****s if this statement was made after this fight!!!!

Joe Louis I would rank slightly higher in an ATG list, but I think Lennox would win a head to head matchup 7 or 8 times out of ten.

Lewis had a good chin and only went down twice in his career, both times from shock. But he'd obviously be ready for Joe Louis and when Lennox was ready and in peak physical condition he was as close to unbeatable as you can get. In such circumstances, he proved that he had the beating of every man he faced...and that includes a number of big punchers who he dealt with accordingly...Tua, Tyson, Ruddock, Morrison etc
