A reasonable person shouldn't have trouble supporting a fighter while remaining objective. The two are not mutually exclusive.

For example, I'm a massive Manny Pacquiao fan. He's my favourite fighter by a mile and I hope he kicks Mayweather's ass. But if you ask me who a favourite would be, I'd say put your money on 'Money'...and if the c*nt wins, good on him. He'll go up even further in my estimation (as a boxer).

I know some people have formed an opinion of Lennox Lewis early in their lives so they found a way to compound that opinion of him, no matter what he did. Blind hate makes you look idiotic...and weak. As I said, it's difficult for an idiot to remain objective but for most reasonable people it's no trouble.

While what you say is true regarding the dim bulbs of NSB, the problem is I've seen far too many otherwise reasonable people that are unable to be objective when discussing fighters they are fans of. The reason is is that they think as a fan, not as an objective observer. I gaurantee you that there are many otherwise reasonable and intelligent people who are fans of the St. Louis Rams who swear their team is going to the Super Bowl this year. The truth is the only way the Rams are going to the big game is if they buy tickets: They're a bad, BAD team. The point is is that sportsfans, ANY sportsfans, tend to think like fans when the discussion turns to the object of their fandom
