His record is nothing special. He only beat 6 quality opponents. None of them are remembered for greatness. The best win on his record is probably Corbett, and he's not rated that highly amongst heavyweights.
If we're going by accomplishments, like him winning titles in three weight classes, then Henry Armstrong trumps him. Because not only did Armstrong do the same thing, but he has an amazing record to go along with that. So amazing that it's one of the best records of all-time.
I'm not saying Armstrong is the greatest fighter of all-time, but he's surely greater than Fitzsimmons. I can name lots of other fighters who are greater, as well.
