No fitzsimmons does not have a claim to be the best fighter of all time, the fighters he won them titles off for me were not all time greats, fitzsimmons and his resume do not match up to a ray robinson, henry armstrong or a harry greb. Fighters around and close to his era such as jeffries, ketchel, johnson, langford, gans, benny leonard all rank higher for me also.

Tracy Callis ranks him as the greatest p4p ever. I disagree, but I don't think it's a crazy opinion.

He might have been the greatest old time fighter. It's difficult to accurately compare him to modern fighters however. There is no doubt about his greatness during his own era though. He dominated and stopped one of the best "pound for pound" fighters of his era Nonpareil Dempsey, won the middleweight title, cleaned out the heavyweight division with KO wins over Sharkey, Maher, Ruhlin as well as champion Jim Corbett and managed to capture the light heavyweight title from George Gardner at 40 years of age.

Based on what I've read, his only legitimate losses came at the hands of Jim Jeffries who outweighed him by 40 to 50 pounds. The Jim Hall loss was said to be a dive. Choynski was all but knocked out when the police stepped in and declared the fight a draw. Wyatt Earp disqualified him against Tom Sharkey supposedly because he had bet on Sharkey. He was well washed up against O'Brien and Jack Johnson.

Id rank Fitz higher than the American champs of that time: Jeffies, Hart, Corbett and Burns. The only guy Id rank ahead of Fitz pre-Johnson is Sullivan since he was the pioneer of the gloved game.

What Fitz was able to do at that weight is amazing...Itdd be like Joe Calzaghe fighting Heavyweights today.

i done this topic around 2 months ago and it was ridiculed and laughed at.

yes a strong case can be made for Fitz being the greatest P4P fighter of all time
