Given that in the early 50s he was considered the greatest HW ever and today he has disappeared from most top 10ATG HW lists, I would think he's rather underrated today.

completely agreed. funny how things change like that. i mean, it's not like people have discovered new fights on dempsey's record that would tarnish it. it's a telling sign of how fickle the boxing community is. in another 50 years the atg lists will probably be completely difference from today's.
