Please ignore him, everyone. Here's the REAL karma message he left me:

Im not the one who just tried to lie and say I never said something, am I? Im not the one who was just caught being a lying hypocrite.

You're a pathetic little troll. You actually took the time out of your day to Photoshop a karma message that never existed.

He is overrated by some boxing fans, but underrated by the general public since the average person has no idea who he is.

Thanks for posting the stats earlier, they were very revealing. It also appears that I got my punch stats wrong. I read them in a biography about 3 years ago and not sure whether my recall is at fault or the source material. Regardless, even by your stats he did throw a high volume of punches.

In terms of Rocky fighting inside I think we're struggling around the definition of inside. Here's my attempt at defining what we're talking about:

Firstly there's in-fighting or inside fighting which is where both fighters are operating inside each others reach, sometimes from a semi clinch. Rocky certainly possessed these skills, and could use them to good effect. You don't really see this type of fighting any more because the referees break the fighters apart much too soon. In the old days they only got broken apart if they were fully locked in a clinch, not a semi-clinch. This style of fighting was the MO of Henry Armstrong, who would lean on the opponents chest. I think that this is what Rocky was referring to - both fighters working inside each others reach.

Secondly you have the situation where one fighter has a significant reach disadvantage over another. In order to land blows on his opponents the short armed fighter must make it past the opponents jab. This is what I term getting inside the opponent. The short armed fighter is operating inside his opponents reach, but his own punches are landing with pretty much full extension. This is what you mostly see Rocky trying to achieve, it's also how Joe Frazier liked to operate. This is what I was referring to when I said that Rocky fought inside his opponent.

In terms of both fighters operating on the outside, I don't think this was possible for Rocky. The reach disadvantage would prevent him from ever landing a shot. He was also by definition a swarming fighter (as was Frazier) and those guys swarm inside their opponents to land a barrage of shots. You do get swarmers like Greb who operated on the outside with lots of lateral movement, but Marciano, again in common with Frazier, only had one gear - forward.

Hope you see where I'm coming from.

As a short armed fighter this subject is one that I'm dealing with every time I put on my gloves. Clinching is not my strong point and a lot of the guys I spar with also train in MMA so the last thing I want to do is clinch with those bastards LOL. I just like to move inside the other guys reach and hammer away at him for as long as I can stay at my preferred range.

Good stuff!... I'd say the only thing you've left out was his ability to take punishment.. He was a freak of nature in that department..

In fairness Jab has over 7,000 posts on this forum, and you have only 110, so probably not the most sensible accusation to make.
