Very informative as ever Harry[?]

Whilst you can't compare Mariciano's resume with Ali do you not think that era's and length of career would have to be weighted re your figures?

Ali was high profile from early on in his career and having a successful amateur career certainly helped. So he was ranking from maybe a year into his career and apart from his ban must have been top ten for the best part of 20 years.
Marciano given his era would have had a slower climb and having a much shorter career probably only ranked top ten himself for 5 or 6 years?

Hopefully you can help me to unravel my point lol.
That would be Mr. Henry Hascup, G. Put a search in on his name and see what you come up with. This guy is a goldmine of information and knowledge.

The Louis fight was pretty even, going into the final round. If Louis had been in his prime, he would've knocked Marciano out.

He was losing against Walcott and one lucky punch saved him.

He retired at just the right time, because Patterson would've beaten him.
He wasn't overrated. He fought the top fighters of that time. Even if they were past prime, that's all he could do. He didn't duck anybody. And Patterson was not close to being ready for a Marciano fight by the time Marciano retired. If Marcianio hung around too long maybe he would have lost to Patterson. But he was smart and retired instead of fighting past his prime. He should be praised for that in the same way I praise Lennox Lewis.

He ducked nobody.

He was in an era made of contenders and old champions. Not his fault.

He beat Charles close to his prime. It's a nice win.

Louis was shot, but Louis is still ranked higher so there is no problem.
I don't see why you are ****ting on him.

He was very small, could have been a LHW.
Undefeated,undisputed HW champ.

He's a real ATG.

A lot of people seem to misunderstand the meaning of this thread.

It's not to question whether or not Marciano is an all-time great. It's to question whether or not he's overrated.

Overrated by some and underrated by others. I don't think there is a clear answer to that.

But it's about whether or not YOU think he's overrated.

Overrated by the casual fan perhaps, but not by boxing historians and hardcore fans.
