There were champions in his era that are ranked pretty highly, by most historians, because they consistently fought great competition. James J. Jeffries is a good example.
The same Jim Jeffries that was getting slaughtered by Fitzsimmons in there first fight before Ruby Robert broke both his hands? THAT Jim Jeffries?

For the record I rate Liston 6th all-time at Heavyweight.

I'm not sure about the whole story of that fight, but if it's true then that's great.. I guess? I was just using Jeffries as an example of a fighter from that era who consistently fought top notch opponents.

I'm not gonna get into the rating of Liston, but I just don't see what fear has much to do with it.

By "feared" I wasn't talking about intimidation. I was talking about the fact that he was generally regarded as the best Middleweight in the world and the terror of the division. Not to mention the fact that he was beating the snot out of Heavyweights while still weighing in at around Middleweight.

Technically he weighed in over the middleweight limit and generally fought heavyweights as a super middleweight/light heavyweight.

Plus, with his lack of a good middleweight resume, I just don't see why you rank him so highly.

To each their own, I guess.

Super Middleweight is a bogus division that didn't exist at the turn of the century.

I don't base my rankings solely on resume. I base my rankings on abilities tempered by resume. To my mind a pure discussion of resume would belong in a thread entitled "List Your Top-5 Middleweight Resumes". A thread simply saying "Top-5 Middleweights" is all encompassing and resume is only one factor going into the rankings.

Whether you believe in the super middleweight division or not, the middleweight limit is 160.

I'm just saying that, aside from abilities, his middleweight resume lacks dearly.

That's bull**** and baseless. Regardless of how many out of shape pub hoppers he fought.

That's why I started that last thread. The fact is that in modern era's, we have no way of knowing how Greb would do. But we do know this. Fighters that B Hop have faced have had access to years of knowledge, training, nutrition, OPPORTUNITY, etc...

How do you see these fights playing out, and explain.

                Greb vs Hopkins
                Greb vs Roy Jones Jr
                Greb vs Trinidad
                Greb vs De La Hoya
                Greb vs Tarver

Those are guys on Hopkin's resume, I do not believe you've backed up your argument that Greb's resume is so much more polished than B Hops.

Your knowledge of boxing history is incredibly limited and close minded. Check out Crolds post for an education on Greb.

As far as the fight you presented.......

Greb over Hopkins by decision. Hopkins never beat a fighter near the caliber of Greb. On the other hand Greb faced many all time greats winning more times than not. The fight would be close but I think Greb out works him.

Jones over Greb by decision. A little to much speed here and Greb doesn't have the power to slow Roy down. I think Harry could rough him up on the inside, but Jones would get a UD.

Greb over Tito by a mile. Greb had an iron chin and his work rate and angles would give Trinidad fits. I think this fight is a blow out with Tito tasting the canvas more than once.

Another blow out far Greb. Oscar doesn't have the stamina or power to hang with Greb. He'd have a few good early rounds and than Harry's tenacity would take over. Greb by wide decision.

Tarver has nothing on Gene Tunney or many other greats that Greb fought at 175. He struggled both times against Glen Johnsons pressure and was beaten by Eric Harding. Another decision for Greb.

His talent was amazing. He simply doesn't have the resume or longevity at 160 for me to rate him that high. Other fighters beat great opposition at that weight and were dominant for good lengths of time. I just can't see rating a guy over other much more accomplished fighters based on what we think he could do. Jmo.

Come off it, dude. Greb beat Tunney and Walker and you're gonna hate on other people's list? It's all opinion and yours isn't better than anyone else's.
2 of them were welterweights, therefore 2 divisions below. and he fought pavlik and winky above their natural weight...
