Im trying to think of fighters from Boston but having a surprisingly hard time. I got John L. Sullivan and Sam Langford. I know Sam was from Nova Scotia but he was to Boston like Robinson was to Harlem.

      Can anyone think of more?

The original Joe Walcott settled in Boston as a youngster.

        My top three from Boston:
        Sullivan
        Langford
        Walcott

Nice call my friend, you been tearing this thread up with your knowledge.

Who do you have for Providence? Pazienza gets associated with it and a case can be made that he did grow up on the Providence line, but he's actually Cranston. There's Harold "Chubby" Gomes and a guy from the 40's who name is escaping me at the moment. After that maybe Manfredo, Brian Barbosa and Gary Belletto? I should know this since Im from the area.

You just mentioned every significant fighter from the state. Rhode Island us such a small state, it is still surprising nit to see an ATG boxer hailing from there.

Lol, yeah Rhode Island is really small.

There was another kid from Pawtucket RI named Louie Veader who was actually a very good up and comer. He had a couple losses to Mickey Ward in the mid 90's and just diappeared. To bad because the kid had talent.

I actually fought Brian Barbosa as an amateur.

What about the state you live in now? Surely there has to be a list from Raleigh, Durham, or Charlotte?

Off the top of my head I can come up with Bonecrusher Smith and Calvin Brock. Other than that i'd have to check. Im about 30 min from Charlotte and I don't know of 1 gym for just boxing. Just doesn't seem to have the same hiostory for boxing as many other states already named. Its a shame because there are some tremendous athletes down here who could make excellent fighters if they had the facilities nd trainers.

                    I'll start with Pittsburgh.

                    1. Harry Greb
                    2. Billy Conn
                    3. Charley Burley

No doubt in my mind Greb is the greatest fighter this city ever produced, but I am really up in the air about Conn and Burley. I rate both very high all time and give a slight edge to Conn based on my opinion he would win a close head to head fight at their respective best.

Feel free to debate this and name some cities and fighters of your own.
                    Seattle
                    Freddie Steele
                    Rocky Lockridge
                    Greg Haugen

                    Tacoma
                    Johnny Bumphus
                    Leo Randolph
                    Ray Seales
