I don't think he ever did a PPV, but HBO couldn't get enough of him when he was hot. I can remember watching him and saying this kid is the ****. At the same time my friends were saying what a **** he was. He was Floyd long before Floyd, only not as good, but more real. People wanted to see him fight whether it was to win or lose. The lower weight never really had that exposure, even during the early to mid 80's with such fighters as Bobby Chacon, Bozooka Limon and Danny Lopez. Believe me my friend, Hamed earned his money and made it possible for a lot of other fighters to get rich too.
Hamed was so hot that he almost sold out MSG for his fight with Kevin Kelley and had a gigantic poster of him put up by HBO to promote that fight on Times Square
I'll throw out two home town boys. Neither got rich, but bot made some decent dough. Peter Manfredo did good for himself after the contender series, and Vinny Pazienza always had a strong following that let him earn some bucks over his career. Both made more than what they could have achieved alone had it not been for their charisma.
