Gerry Cooney. made millions. Unfortunately, he blew most of it. Has become a tremendous advocate for fighters the last 15 years

Rocky Juarez always seems to be in title fights. What about him?

            Lickle Ricky Hatton for me.

He was an ok champ, but was also one of the greatest draws of our era and really, he was pretty ****. Good, but for the amount of money he made you'd expect him to be one of the greatest of all time. The best fighter he ever beat in Tszyu, probably made a quarter of what lickle Ricky Hatton did, and yet he was a better champ ten times over who was champ for about three times as long too.

I'll throw out two home town boys. Neither got rich, but bot made some decent dough. Peter Manfredo did good for himself after the contender series, and Vinny Pazienza always had a strong following that let him earn some bucks over his career. Both made more than what they could have achieved alone had it not been for their charisma.

He made that money because he put boxing and more important the lighter weight classes in the spot light. On top of that most of his fights were filled with drama and anticipation. Love him or hate him, Hamed was good for the sport. Jmo.

did hamed ever do a ppv in the states? not a sarcastic question. Who was the first lower weight fighters to start headlining ppvs?

I don't think he ever did a PPV, but HBO couldn't get enough of him when he was hot. I can remember watching him and saying this kid is the ****. At the same time my friends were saying what a **** he was. He was Floyd long before Floyd, only not as good, but more real. People wanted to see him fight whether it was to win or lose. The lower weight never really had that exposure, even during the early to mid 80's with such fighters as Bobby Chacon, Bozooka Limon and Danny Lopez. Believe me my friend, Hamed earned his money and made it possible for a lot of other fighters to get rich too.
