    They're both great boxers.

Pep had better defense than offense, while Leonard had a combination of both. Defense-wise, it goes to Pep. Offense-wise, to Leonard.

Going by their records, Leonard's is better than Pep's.

In the end, I'd favor Leonard as the better boxer in the all-time rankings.

I don't know...both All Time Great fighters. Once you get to the level they were at it is just...well...exceptional.

People that saw both fighters live and in person were in awe of both.

There is a lot more footage of Pep though than Benny.

The advantaged Benny had over Pep was that Benny could hit when he wanted to and needed to. I read an article before that said Benny actually didn't like hurting his opponents but would unleash if he had to...which he did many times because of the era he was in was tough.

Credit to you a very balanced un-biased post considering your moniker Benny

It's just one of those questions of "who is better, who would you want...Beautiful Women "A" or Beautiful Women "B"?

          I don't know; I'll have them both

Not so sure, I'd avoid the one with the better offence, women are vicious

This is true, but his offense was remarkable as well. It just seems to be forgotten because his defense has been blown up into mythological proportions. Same goes with Pernell Whitaker. I always thought had had excellent offensive abilities, yet they are never mentioned because of his defensive prowess.

I know. I'm not saying his offense wasn't good. Just that his defense was better than his offense. And I think Leonard's offense was better than Pep's.

Fair enough my friend. I was trying to criticize, only make a point.

So Benny, how good was Johnny Dundee? I have heard to him referred to as the first very good professional Italian fighter. He fought 8 times with Leonard on seemingly equal terms between 1914 and 1920.

Leonard seemed to be a tad more vulnerable then Pep so he had to use his power to bail him out. Charley White put him through the ropes with a scintillating left hook (my words not any historains) in the 1st in their fight, so it wasn't like Leonard could go easy on him same with Richie Mitchell.
I think Johnny Dundee was really his nemesis because they were pretty equal and Dundee had a really good chin.

If you're talking about skill, it has to go the Willie Pep in my personal opinion. Take their best traits and compare Willie's defense to Leonards offense, and I think Pep has the stronger trait. Also, Pep had a VERY solid offense to begin with wile Leonard had a shakey chin that got tagged enough to let us know it was shakey to begin with.

If you want to go based on overall career/accomplishments, then you must give the nod to Leonard, in my opinion. He faced the slightly better overall opposition and he did this WITH a shakey chin. Proves the greatness, in many ways with that alone.

Overall, I like Pep better, but the truth is the truth. Both were better in different ways.
