...And special mention for Sugar Ray Robinson exhibition spar with Willie Pep. Funny and legendary.
DLH-Chavez 2 was a good one, that was like Chavez' last stand but he was just too old and too small to keep up with DLH.

    • Leonard vs Benitez (believe it or not). There was just so much skill and mind reading in that fight and it was two of the best welterweights in any era. I could watch that fight any day.

Indeed, a very skillful fight, a great fight in it's own right.

Definitely. As far as pure action, i would have to go with Foreman/Lyle, Ali/Frazier III, Toney/Jirov, Norton/Holmes, Leonard/Lalonde, Gatti/Ward, Vasquez/Marquez ect. There's a lot to name

It sure was good. Like you said, Chavez was too old and small to keep up with that pace. But Delahoya got hit quite a bit in that fight and it showed on his face.

Yes there was. Another fight that featured a lot of technical skill was the first Whitaker-McGirt fight.

              • Vito Antuofermo vs Eugene 'Cyclone' Hart - Hart started off the fight well and seemed to stun Antuofermo in the second round but Antuofermo fought back, from that point on the rough and tough Antuofermo started wearing Hart down, he hurt Hart badly in the 4th and almost had Hart out of there but Hart gallantly fought back and landed some big shots himself. Hart came out in the fifth looking like he knew he had to make a stand but it wasn't enough, he eventually went down twice and got counted out. Don Dunphy said during the fight that the fight was turning into a war of attrition which was exactly what it had become, not many people beat Vito Antuofermo in a war of attrition.

Antuofermo was known to get cut up and this fight was no different, Antuofermo got cut pretty bad over the right eye and seemed to get a cut on his right ear.

                • Alex Leapai vs Travis Walker - Walker down in the opening seconds of the first and hurt multiple times in the round, fought back well, hurt again in the second but then hurt Leapai in the same round then got hurt again towards the end of the round. Again, both hurt in round 3, Walker early in the round but Leapai looked like he was running out of gas halfway through the round and got knocked down by Walker. Leapai was badly hurt at the end of the third. Leapai did not look recovered in the fourth and Walker was battering him with punches for 2 minutes of the round when out of nowhere Leapai trapped Walker on the ropes and landed some big shots that convinced the referee to stop the fight. The stoppage was quick though and Walker's corner went crazy.

Walker was the more skilled fighter but almost every shot that snaked through his guard hurt him, he can't take a good shot. It could be the best heavyweight fight so far this year, actually it might be one of the fights of the year period.

                    • Jung Koo Chang vs Hideyuki Ohashi 2 - Rematch of a pretty one sided fight which Chang won 2 years prior, Ohashi had made improvements though while Chang might have been a step slower than he was. First 2 rounds were not too eventful but the fight really picked up in the third where Chang managed to knock Ohashi down 3 times and open a cut on Ohashi, improbably Ohashi hurt Chang badly at the end of the round when Chang was going for the finish. Chang didn't look fully recovered in the fourth but he just kept punching and kept moving forward while Ohashi managed to pepper Chang a bit when Chang was on the way in. The fifth was an all action round with both fighters punching away at each other, Chang seemed to get back the strength of his legs towards the end of the round though and came out more measured in the sixth, leaving less openings for Ohashi. Chang asserted himself in the 7th by knocking Ohashi down twice more even though he was buzzed by a left hook from the Japanese challenger. Ohashi tried to show Chang that he was recovered at the beginning of the 8th round and came out aggressively, landing some big shots in the process but Chang wasn't phased and came back at Ohashi, knocking Ohashi down two more times before the referee stopped the fight.

Chang was the one with all the knockdowns in this fight but he was forced to dig deep at points where it did look like he was in jeopardy of losing his title. Great fight.
