Brawny wrapped up much of the discussion by pointing out that Robby had no chance to duck Burley at MW. Any further discussion would have to look at WW Robinson to decide if he ducked there. Brawny also provided some leads on that.

In his fight with Ali, Archie admitted he bet on Ali's 4th round prediction.
Unfortunately the only film we have of Burley is an indecisive short vs Oakland Billy Smith...Comment

fight ended in decision
Archie would say Burley was his best opponentComment

Robinson wasn't in the same division as most of the Row for any substantial time. Ring still rated some guys like Burley and Williams there for a while after they had already moved to middle so old rankings make it look longer than it was. By the time Ray was fully settled at welter, most were fighting at middle and light heavyweight. Bivins was rated the best at light heavy and heavy for a while during the war. Ray did fight some middles, but he was looking for a title shot at 47. Ducking for what? They didn't have anything he was trying to get. Henry Armstrong ducking Burley, Williams and Kid is a MUCH stronger argument. They were HIS top ten welterweights. And they didn't really get ducked at middle either because none got a title shot (non wartime title) for like 3 years while Zale was in the war.Comment
