  • 585 books have been written about Muhammad Ali

Historian and collector Butch Zurbriggen has collected 585 books published about Muhammad Ali. I would have guessed 75 tops. Amazing measure of Ali's popularity and fame. He is the greatest sports champion figure in history or even more than just sports. No way has anyone else from the history of the planet had 585 books written about them.

Thats pretty good, but 585 is just a drop in the bucket compared to some (and I wont even touch on religious figures with this).

    Abraham Lincoln has about 15,000
    George Washington over 10,000
Napoleon Bonaparte has at least 60,000

Now these are all just google estimates, but still pretty crazy when you think about it

What's sad is how many great or not great but interesting fighters have 0 books about them. I think Ali has been explored plenty. Authors can stop already.

It's about a lot more than boxing for Ali. And that's what sells the most.

Really? That could be fake news numbers. Hard to believe.

The collection of 585 books of Butch Zurbriggen are not all classics but his favorite top 3 are: Facing Ali by Steven Brunt, Muhammad Ali Life & Times by Thomas Hauser and Muhammad Ali Portrait of a Champion by Scoop Malinowski.

                  - - Ali's first autobiography was a made up fantasy that generated his hokum movie that he starred, or rather cra pped in...embarrasing...

There are several excellent ones and a few clunkers. I really liked Facing Ali, Running With The Champ, and Muhammad Ali Portrait of a Champion by Malinowski
