Gotta give it to George Foreman. The man could take bombs and still stand tall. Even in his later years, his chin held up like granite. smm panel provider

Not that any of them had the chin of Chuvalo. Rocky's chin only had to hold up against some elders; Chuvalo's withstood punchers Patterson, Foreman, Frazier and Williams, never going out and never even going down.in 93 brawls.

I would have to say Foreman, followed by Ali and Marciano in no order.

And Foreman . Holmes had a very good chin and probably the best recuperative powers of the heavyweight champs, but he was knocked down 7 times,8 if you include the dodgy one against Butterbean.

Foreman lifted Chuvalo off his feet with an uppercut. Had George Chuvalo not been against and fell onto the ropes he would have gone down.

Check it out, you'll see it.

Yes, I remember it. But would-a, could-a, should-a doesn't count. Chuvalo never went down--ever. George sustained major beatings from major punchers but his knees never caved in.

By the way, I am sure you are just pointing this out and not arguing a point. But it brings me to a natural question: Would you rate Chuvalo as the #1 chin in HW history?

As I expressed in the 'Is Ali the GOAT' thread, I don't believe in #1

But I would certainly put him on a short list.

Off the top of my head in no particular order:

                Chuvalo
                Ali
                Dempsey
                Tunney
                Marciano
                Holyfield
                Foreman (II)

Want to put Liston on this list but don't know to explain Ali-Liston II.

                ........

Honorable Mentions (guys who went down but never seemed hurt)

Foreman (I) - went down a few times but got back up; was defeated by exhaustion not Ali's punch.

Tyson Fury - goes down but gets up; got to give him the cred.

Jeffries - look bad in Reno - past-it - but took a beating and still got back up for more -- in prime hard to hurt.

Jerry Quarry -- I know he's been stopped but I have seen him takes punches he shouldn't have been able to.

Tex Cobb - a freak! A punching bag, yet no slurred speech, even today.

                Here's a strange outlier:

                What about Jess Willard?

Does getting up six times against Dempsey say you got a weak chin or a great chin? Then he went on for two more rounds and quit on his stool.

His only other stoppage was against Firpo, and there, he didn't go down, but instead chose to squat down and quit in the 8th round. Later claiming he hurt his arm

P.S. Willard does have a third KO loss, but again he just quit in the middle of the fight.

Stopped three times, but never really counted out, just quit three times.

                .......

P.S.S. How do factor in a guy who goes down but won't stay down? Is that a great chin, in a different way?

                Sorry for the digression.

Of course rating a chin has to be under the purview of your own rules. Getting back up? That is up to you; you could write it off as bad balance if you wanted.

Do I take it you have no P4P GOAT? Or that you never vote for anyone as #1 in any poll. What do you do In any poll that rates by numbers? We cannot assume two chins are exactly as strong. There has to be a chin you would want more than any other in an emergency. For me that is Chuvalo because he took myriad killer shots all the time and usually came out of it looking like he was not hurt but inconvenienced.

I try to avoid lists. Sometimes I get seduced and want to give my opinion. Not often.

I guess I would want Tex Cobb's chin (head). As I said, still clear-headed; un-hurt.

If I have to choose, it's him.
