  • Your 5 Fights BELOW HEAVY That COULD Have Happened But Didn't?

    I'll start the ball rolling.
NO matches in which the participants actually DID meet.

    Conteh v Galindez

    Nelson v McGuigan

    Pedroza v Sanchez

    Lamotta v Graziano

    Robinson v Burley

    Armstrong-Burley.

Armstrong should have fought Burley in 1940 instead of Zivic. Burley had gone 2-1 with Zivic that year.

But one can understand Armstrong's decision.

The popular Zivic helped Armstrong sellout MSG in back to back fights

    It is prize fighting.

    Bramble-Camacho

Shot term greedy Don King matched Bramble with Rosario instead and blew the anticipated match-up.

    Packy McFarland-Battling Nelson

Nelson refused to fight McFarland until Packey beat Gans.

    Packey McFarland-Joe Gans

Gans had to retire He was developing (and eventually died from,) TB.

    Monzon-Hagler

Even thought Halger wasn't ready and Monzon was ready to be 'past-it' - The disadvantages of the 'lack of experience' (Hagler) and the 'passing of time' (Monzon) would have balanced out the disadvantages and offered a great crossroads fight. Of course it takes 20-20 hindsight to recognize this today. At the time we just didn't know what Hagler would become.

          - - Clearly Marv still in training pants when Monzon retired. Are you asking for a prime Marv vs aging Monzon in his last few fights?

I'd still pick Monzon, the guy was a lot more than a boxer.
