Dave Boy Green was a good fighter.

He was left quivering on the canvas.

Tommy took dozens of those shots and more.

Only when he was utterly exhausted did he go down (145) in round 14 and finished on his feet.

    Light middle - no.

I think in '84 he could have beaten Ray at that weight and perhaps even Robinson.
Okay, I will take a look at Davey Green and see what I think. I have already watched Hagler/Hearns and Leonard/Hearns many times and already know Hearns lasted less time than guys who were much easier to hit like Roldan and Mugabi who were big punchers and also came to fight. I wonder why that is? Tommy is said to have cracked his knuckle off to on Marvin. Let's face it, he was small boned, especially those long, vulnerable fingers--it doesn't take a doctor!

So you are right about being a better welterweight, but that is common knowledge for just about any fighter who moves up.

Both Leonard and Hearns have a decent chance against Robby. Hearns might strike early and Leonard was great in protracted fights. He was great in Duran 1, he just lost.

Robby can strike fast too. It would be hard for even you to argue Tommy's chin was better than or equal to Robby's. But this fight cannot go the distance. That is surely impossible, i.e., less than 1% likely, is my read. Who strikes best fast may gain an insurmountable edge. It really depends on the approach each man adopts. Do they even know of each other? Do both have equal knowledge of how dangerous the other is? That would determine much of their plans and approach I imagine.

I think Leonard would have an even better chance of pulling off an upset. He might out sugar his namesake. I still think he is the underdog though by about 3 to 2, or the old 60/40 in percentages. This bout might easily end with a decision.

Lewis did not have a chin as granite as Chuvalo's, who did? But it was far from being glass ,which is the subject we are discussing.

He took the sort of shots from Vitali that had ko'd lots of men.full blooded, on the button power shots.Lewis was on his feet when the fight was stopped against McCall, and the right hand that ko'd him from Rahman would have floored, just about anyone ,and ko'd most.imo.

Chuvalo was rescued by the referee against Foreman, otherwise I think he would have eventually gone down.

I certainly would not compareTommy's chin to Robinsons.

Let's face it if he had a granite chin he would be totally unbeatable at welter/light middle and the GOAT.

I watched Hearns/Roldan again. I think he knocked Roldan down in every round, if he didn't miss the 3rd, so Tommy was not taking too much of a beating. His problem was that even poorly landed punches set his stork legs a-wobble, thereby reinforcing my read of his chin. No doubt in my mind that his chin was weak--for an ATG, that is, not a citizen in the park as Willie pointed out.

Fair enough, we all have our opinions and this is a discussion forum after all.

              - - 2 punches and 2 flights to Bolivia via Timbuktu.

I gather a weak chin sunk U boxing aspirations too.
