If he is ATG, than Usyk is the best heavyweight ever.

This antient fighters are often overrated for some crazy reasons.
If you really think that about Sonny you know nothing about boxing.

Many old time fighters are overrated Liston certainly is not.

His claim to fame is that in the late 50's both public and press alike thought he was utterly invincible and almost superhuman.

In a rare interview on Youtube Ali admits a prime Sonny was a beautifully skilled and fearsome fighter. He also said numerous times that the only time he was ever truly frightened in his career was when Liston was making his way to the ring for their first fight.

Ali's backers had already arranged for an ambulance to take him by the quickest route to the A&E.

His aura of sheer intimidation has NEVER been matched not even by George and certainly not by Tyson.

      Forensic Details & Needle Marks:

      1. Needle Marks – The autopsy report noted fresh needle marks on Liston's arm. This was significant because Liston was not known to be a drug user, and those close to him claimed he had a fear of needles.

      2. Morphine & Codeine in His System – Toxicology tests found morphine and codeine in his blood, suggesting heroin use. However, no paraphernalia like a syringe or spoon was found at the scene.

      3. Position of the Body – He was found slumped over, with a broken footstool nearby and an open bottle of vodka, adding to speculation that the scene may have been staged.

      4. Unclear Cause of Death – The coroner ultimately ruled it natural causes but acknowledged that heroin overdose couldn't be ruled out, particularly given the lack of clear evidence of self-adminstration.

Either the first, and no lower than second greatest heavyweight to ever live. Liston is about 7th or 8th.

            The Greatest.

Plus by then Sonny was ring rusty, had drug and alcohol problems and legitimate shoulder damage - which medical records prove.

He was also about 5 years older than the official record states and simply vastly underestimated Ali.

In a prime for prime fight Ali would still have won but it would have been a lot closer with Ali victorious by just a couple of rounds.

Clay is N.1 or. 2 heavyweight ever. That is not debatable.

But Liston is top 10....based on what? His resume is very thin.

Why should I belive Liston was so good?

I find it really hard to imagine anyone ever surpassing Ali as the greatest heavyweight in history.

The '67 version was supernatural. What a shame we never got to see his real prime.

Head to head and greatness at heavy however are slightly different things, Joe is the consensus no 2 but I highly doubt he beats all of those that followed him.

As far as hth goes a fully focused and motivated Lewis would probably have the best chance of beating '67 Ali.

But there are several others too.

                      - - In 1967 Ali turned down Wilt Chamberlain's agreed up Contract that Cosell had set up as a televised signing. It was embarrassing seeing how quickly Wilt turned Ali into just another confused kid.

Instead he fought ancient Zora Folley who gave him all Ali could handle.
