Fights that would have been stopped much earlier had they been fought today?

Not sure if people are aware that fairly recent research (2012)suggests that men's fists (more so than women's) specifically evolved for combat as well as dexterity.

I can't remember the exact paper though.

Aa for bullfighting every time I hear a matador has been killed I cheer loudly for the bull.

All animal cruelty is sick and sadistic.

I used to follow that evil b*stard Adam Britton's
crocodilian blog (he was was a world leading expert and even Attenborough had met him) and was utterly horrified when he was finally found out.

The details of the court transcripts were simply horrific so I certainly won't repeat them here.

Those poor, poor dogs.

Nature (evolution) and Nurture (Social conditioning). Most women are not socialized to throw a punch. This goes a long way towards making it harder for them to deal with this level of violence. My family was fairly typical... I had two younger sisters to protect, the plan always was, if we got attacked I fought, they ran to get help. If they had been two younger brothers? You know how the plan would have changed!

But it is probably better if we fly off our sofa and shake our fist at the TV screen and yell, "Damn it, bullshlt, you stopped it too soon."

I hate it, but it's probably a good thing that I don't get what I want.

that is right willie. that line between skilled ferocity in sport and straight forward cruelty is a thin one indeed. as a fan of boxing like us lot we like excitement but we should know that these men need to live the rest of their lives long after we all forget that fight night. well said willie!

Moving up from light-middle after Medal to beat the living **** out of a freakishly strong (if crude) light-heavy was an awesome performance from Tommy.

You know Ghost? It almost seems like a thread asking about fights that would be allowed to go on today would yield you a lower number! I agree with breadman about something that is morally ambigious but sacrosanct to boxing: Yes it is a brutal sport, yes it is bad for fighters to take punishment, especially if their resolve is carrying them... But if we are going to have boxing then we have to give the fighters a lot of leeway. Unless a guy takes a kee, or is in a state where they cannot fight back absolutely, the fight should be allowed to go on.

No arguments there. Fans want their money’s worth and there is little worse than an over-protective ref who stops a fight too soon. But there are also fighters who are too brave for their own good. They will literally fight to the death. Having a granite chin can be both a blessing and a curse. Especially post retirement when the punches they took result in brain damage and Parkinson’s. I think back to Chavez/Taylor and how Taylor was 2 seconds from a split decision win, but Richard Steele stopped it. While it was a controversial stoppage, Steele has to do his job every second of he round, and if a fighter is helpless on the ropes he has to protect him from himself.

I remember watching a fight between Charles Williams and Merqui Sosa that was stopped by referee Ron Lipton in the late rounds and declared a draw, his reasoning was both fighters took too much punishment to continue. I had never seen this before or since. I thought it was unfair to both fighters.
