  • Odd Names, Real or Nicknames

Browsing the boxrec archives, I came across this guy whose name raised my eyebrows.
In his debut, and to no one’s surprise, Kid Rheumatism was kayoed in two.

This thread has previously appeared on the non-stop section, where a Zimbabwean boxer
was mentioned. I guess that a worse ring name than Hitler the Killer is hard to find.

BoxRec actually has a Ni***r Smith listed!

"And in the red corner we have"... No, that definitely wouldn't fly today!

Lol, no it wouldn't. 0-1, knocked out by the great Young Corbett II in both their debuts.

My first thought was the several Thai fighters who take on sponsored ring names, and I think may legally change their names in the process. Most notably Khaosai Galaxy and Knockout CP Freshmart.

There's a few from the bare knuckle era. Holden's ****** I can remember from off the cuff.

Such an absurd world we live in.

Hen The Game Chicken Pearce will always have a special place in my heart. In his time it was a brave name or rather a name that basically meant he's a brave fella. now of course it couldn't mean anything farther from that. The irony of time and all that. Like I just said in my last post, the absurdity of the world we live in.

Many thai fighter take the name of their gym to show respect. I've always like that about they're culture. Would love to see it catch on here, but there is little honor nor loyalty in boxing. Kronk Hearns, Wildcard Cotto. Lol, i like it!

**** man, should have organized my thoughts into one post. Oh well, we're here now.

There is a special lament for those men who fought but their names are lost and their new names impossible to utter. Perhaps N-Smith is just an unimportant debutant, but Holden's Man was not, if by nothing else than the juxtaposition of time. Holden's Fighter was a pioneering black pugilist.

Sad then, neither the name of his birth or kin, nor the name given to him tied to his history in this sport may be uttered. Sadder still in the philosophy of two deaths, this man's second death, the one that takes place when they stop saying your name, happened before his moral life ended. Then again when manner dictates his new name never be uttered.

I am here to speak to the man whose sole identity is found in his purchaser's name. How ****ing sad is that? I can put Holden's anything and you guys can follow who I mean but if I drop Holden then the fighter is lost. How ****ing sad is it I do not know the man's name but this name I do know I only know because of the actions of the man?

                It bugs me.
