He had as long to train as Lewis,in fact he was in much better shape than Lewis was,Vitali stated Lewis was always his ultimate target.Vitali had 7 weeks of training to fight Boswell before he got the call to replace Johnson which, with the other 2 weeks, gave him 9 weeks in camp.
Lewis was supposed to defend against 6 '2" Johnson but agreed to fight the higher ranked Vitali, who was 5 inches taller than his original opponent.
Vitali came in at his usual weight.
Lewis at 256 1/2lbs, 7lbs more than he had scaled for his last fight with Tyson,and 10 lbs more than he had weighed for the fight before that, against Rahman.
His highest ever weight for a fight,plus at 37 Lennox was 5 years the older man
All the judges gave 4 rds to Vitali and 2 to Lewis who was coming on,all gave Lewis the last[6th] round and the 4th.
