I don't get his style. He intentionally tied himself up and fought on the inside even though that meant he got punched a lot more, and it decreased leverage on his punches.
Why didnt Dempsey ever fight on the outside?

Dempsey was a mid range fighter who bobbed and weaved punches. This didn't take from his power but added to it. -

Huh? Dempsey did not have a long left ( reach was just 73" ) and did feature a jab punch for offensive or defensive reasons. I think he was a good mover with his feet, not a very good mover or great mover. However his long term stamina was not great and his movemtmet was not good in the mid rounds or late rounds. The films show us that.Last edited by Dr. Z; 12-02-2024, 02:43 PM.Comment

Jack caved in Jess's right cheek bone in the first round. He boxed well with Tommy Gibbons who was a top boxer/puncher.Comment

Very little film on Dempsey? There is a good amount of boxing film on Dempsey. And they feature different opponents. And plenty of sparring sessions.Comment

Dempsey had excellent footwork and upper body movement. He wasn't as easy to hit clean as people think. Inactivity while champion hurt his stamina and timing later on.Comment
