In a taped interview Sharkey admitted his wife had her doubts about the legitimacy of the ko.
Sharkey could throw bombs and make sure they did not connect.He looks like he is ducking down inviting the uppercut which by the way is not actually seen connecting on film only the reaction to it ringsiders said it was Carnera's forearm that actually struck Sharkey .
The ko looks very theatrical to me.Carnera never showed that power before or again.
We will never know.
Sharkey lived to 91 his wife died long before him.

Clearly my memory has faded and I stand corrected on Sharkey's wife and what was said. I do know right up to his dying day that Jack denied taking a dive. I have also read the Walter Friedman (Carnera's manager) acknowledged some of Primo's earlier fights that were setups said the Sharkey fight was on the level. Sharkey also digressed after the Carnera fight losing 3 of his next 4 fights and 2-4-1 before hanging the gloves up. I agree 100% we'll never know. I guess it comes down to what you want to believe. I have a soft spot for Carnera. He gets such a bad rap, but was not a terrible fighter. He also had a lot of heart.

Sharkey never admitted to diving,and he had certainly gone back by the 2nd Carnera fight.

Carnera 's resume to a nose dive too ,without assistance from the mob he began losing to 2nd raters. Leon See ,another manager said he fixed about 30 of Primo's fights,Broadway Billy Duffy yet another of Carnera's pilots told Paul Gallico Primo couldn't punch ,or take a punch and they were unlucky Gallico turned up in Paris and saw a light heavyweight drop Primo in the Velodrome.

Wasn't till after Louis Primo's career really started to slide. Following the Sharkey fight he bead Uzcudan and Loughran. We'll never truly know with any certainty, that is obvious.

Uzcudun hadn't been ranked for years.Loughran was conceding about 86lbs and was never a puncher Primo broke Tommy's toe when he stamped on it.
