no Roberto Duran lost too many fights in that decade to be considered the best fighter of that era……..I would say 70’s he has a better shot at that.
I love Duran but he lost to all the 3 other kings in leonard , hearns and hagler ….add benitez , laing , and robbie sims plus he stained his legacy when quitting mid fight against leonard.

Thats the P4P list AT THE START of 1980. Duran was still p4p the best fighter on the planet at that point in time.

Like I just posted above, it's the P4P list AT THE start of the year 1980. The point behind the thread is to compare p4p lists from start and ends of a decade.

Above are the complete lists and you can see how P4P lists changed throughout most of those decades...and yet it shows the remarkable longevity of Hopkins, Mayweather and Pacquiao in the modern era.

Ali is another one who may well have started the 70s as a p4p contender if not numero uno if not for the ban.

Sorry I don't get it. Camacho from 1980-1989 was 35-0-0 and held multiple titles and cleaned out both the Jr. Lightweight and Lightwright division.

P4P doesn't denote a fighter's ability to move up in weigh, that's called something else, right?

So how can the likes of Vito Antuofermo be on the list but not Macho?
