But Mayweather's habitual running got me thinking: What if a fighter refuses to follow a runner, e.g. Pep, Mayweather Jr., or Camacho around the ring, and instead stands flat footed at ring center with his hands up waiting to engage.

The "Camacho" type fighter then does occasionally move in, but once an exchange occurs, he begins to move backwards again. The flat footed fighter then says no, and stays motionless at ring center.

How would you judge that fight? Does either fighter have an obligation to engage?

What I saw of the first three rounds of Mayweather-Maidana II left me annoyed. If I had been Maidana I would have retreated to ring center and waived Mayweather in. I would not chase him.

I wonder who the crowd would boo, and which way the judges would sway.
    - - Always said if I fought Popkins and he started running and spoiling, I'd just back to the ropes and bounce off to the next set of ropes until he starts fighting instead of stinking.
