I've posted remarks casting doubt on this claim by an acknowledged expert on Greb.I am not an expert on him ,nor have I ever claimed to be one.Tunney wrote 2 books, in the first he never mentions these claims. They were made in his second book ,after Greb's death.

Well those books on Greb were at least written by men who either saw Greb fight or lived in his time. The poster you refer to doesn't have a post here so it is unfair for you to interject any personal animosity toward him.
As much as I do not like Klompton, nor he me - Ivich
Big shocker, you are at odds with yet another person. Now IMO, Klompton is an educated fanboy toward Greb, but he is not the type to go into details about the negativity of Greb's fouls or repeat anything that doesn't cast his golden boy in a positive light. It was a big shocker he doesn't believe this happened. Just like Greb butted Tunney multiple times in the first match between the two, by smashing his head into Tunney's nose and face causing a untold amount to blood. The crowd applauded Tunney for going 15 rounds. This is according to Tunney's corner directly after the fight and I mentioned that press here before. Greb had to get special discussion from the ref not to foul in the following matches. Again I quoted that here. Does Klompton mention any of the above in his book? He has incorrectly described Greb's style as Ricardo Antonio Mayorga like. This to me is a head scrather as Mayorga is a well muscled guy who did not move as Greb did. Not was he as active. Or skilled.
I have nor doubt Greb was a special fighter who had a style of massive activity combined with great speed and movement. And he was physically and mentally tough with the rare ability to keep this up for 15 rounds! He had a heck of a chin too. The man just wouldn't stay still! He also combined that art of fouling when he was active into his style.
Don't be so sure there is no film on Greb. That was said years ago until a copy of him sparring and working out was " found " The goalpost has been moved since.Last edited by Dr. Z; 09-06-2023, 07:14 AM.

I'm interjecting no personal animosity towards Klompton .I stated he is probably the worlds expert on Greb,I'd classify that as a big compliment!
You are the one,[ from the safety of this forum,I might add,] disparaging him, calling him a fan boy ,and casting doubt on his objectivity .
Would that be because he, ,many times called you a barefaced liar ?
Klompton has tons of first hand contemporary reports of Greb's fights I would certainly believe him before others, such as James R Fair who was taken to court by the Greb estate for telling lies about him and had his second printing of his book cancelled as a result of the litigation.'
Klompton has the round by round accounts of all the Greb v Tunney fights, what do you have, a self serving quote from Tunney, made after Greb had passed, which the referee says he did not hear.
I don't know if Greb said those words and neither do you,
I also don't know the contents of Klompton's Greb book because I haven't read it,and neither have you!
The difference is I'm not prepared to accept Tunney;s quote at face value without any proof to confirm it and you are.
You have no idea if Greb fought like Mayorga, because all you have to form an opinion are the few pithy comments on Box Rec,whereas Klompton has loads of round by round summaries of Greb's fights to form his opinion.
Film of Greb? I distinctly remember you stating equivocally on ESB that a friend of yours had footage of Greb fighting.
This was one of the times when he called you a liar and challenged you to provide the serial number of the film,as is generally known Klompton has one of the largest collections of rare footage of fight films.
Your excuse for not doing so was you were sworn to secrecy.? LOL
And remember in your facile attempt to appear reasonable ,once again it was you who called me out!
Now is there anything else I can help you with?
NB the only book on Greb that I'm aware of prior to Klompton's was
James R Fair's " Give Him To The Angels". Fair was born in1920 so he certainly never saw Greb fight!
If you have another, written by somebody who saw Greb fight.
NAME THE BOOK's TITLE AND IT'S AUTHOR!Last edited by Ivich; 09-06-2023, 08:21 AM.

I am not going to recycle details of what I have or do not have, but I disagreed with Klomtpon who said the man who said Italians have in the DNA to cheat. Got that, Tony? Now don't make this thread about me if him, and do not assume what I have read or not read!
How do you know James Fair never saw Greb fight??? Calling you out for the15 time! Your link on this is? Proof would be nice as give him to the Angles was written in 1946 long before Greb films were missing of the chemical broke down original films that were not well preserved. Authors tend to watch film you know of the subject material.
You can ask Klompton yourself, he said exactly that about Mayorga comparing him to Greb's style. He may not reply to you or you won't admit he said this because it will again prove I am factual.
And by the way the guy who said he has Greb on film is not my friend. There was some private debate over the film and you clearly were not in that discussion!
Keep Lying about me and the facts,,,,

Fair's book has been discredited.
What Klompton said about Italians and their DNA has exactly what to do with this? I know Klompton compared Greb to Mayorga I read his posts about this subject before commenting
on it!
Who are you to say he is wrong? Klompton replies to me ,and I to him neither of us are banned from ESB.
He called you a liar over your statement that you knew some one who had fight film of Greb and challenged you to prove it with the serial number of the film you
gave the excuse you did not want to break a confidence .How is providing the serial number breaking a confidence?
Bottom Line. You've tried to call me out and failed miserably.
Direct question.
Have you, or have you not read.
Give Him To The Angels .By James R Fair.
Live Fast Die Young The Life And Times Of Harry Greb.By Steve Compton.
A Man Must Fight.By Gene Tunney.
The Fearless Harry Greb.By Bill Paxton.
Yes?
No?
I will take no reply as ."no I haven't but I don't want to admit it"Last edited by Ivich; 09-06-2023, 10:21 AM.
