Who ever did such a thing against such a rugged opponent over a 10 month period? Easy FOY for me.

**** Tiger vs. Gene Fullmer (3rd meeting) - BoxRec
Which one did you think was the best of all 3?

Did they seriously just censor D!ck Tiger in the OP? When did this become a thing?

            I would replace 1997 with Tapia-Romero.

P.S. Why is there an * after Tua's name?

            EDIT

Sorry I see now what the * denotes. What was the original fight?

The actual Ring FOTY in 97 was Gatti-Ruelas

Remember watching this fight back in the day. Rewatched it last night after seeing this.

Not arguing with the 1981 fight of the year between Hearns and Leonard which featured a fantastic tactical switch fight from both fighters but will always have a special place in my heart for Caveman Lee vs John Locicero that same year.

Sometimes great action alone can carry a fight to FOTY, e.g Lee v. Locicero. But the damn Leonard-Hearns fight was not only a great fight, it also ignited the casual sports fan, and made boxing the premiere sport for a week or two. A position the fight game only achieves occasionaly since the death of Paret and its abandoned by television.

Best for the fight game if Ring chooses a fight recognized by the casual, than one recognized only by the advocates.

Lee-Locicero was a great fight; Leonard-Hearns rose to a national event, better serving the fight game in the long run.
