Johnny Tapia appreciation

Johnny Tapia: this dude suffered from ptsd. He turned his demons into his strengths. Heck he was hypomanic, super strong from all the trauma in his life. He waited at the door for his mom but she never showed up, frightening as a little child. In fact this dudes metabolism was so good he could fight under featherweight and still eat snickers bars and root beer. He threw 25 punch combinations, an offensive wizard making his opponents miss close while being in front of him. His problem: that *******, he said it was his mistress! "If you want to know the real johnny follow him into the bathroom." And "the first time you do it, is a mistake, the second time, it's a habit." His lovely wife Theresa, whom he claims has the strength of ten men, while he just one lol. She locked him in the house his the keys, dried him out lol. The drugs left his system and he began to shadow box and jump rope in place! Whenever he fought he was having the time of his life, peaceful serene, yet the pride of Albuquerque NM. A few losses to Romero hurt his pride.

Johnny was a kinda guy who needed to be wound up like a wind up toy. You prep him, and set him in the right direction and then watch him go! An animated character, trading off his energy with others. He woulda been a joy to be around at the gym, never a dull moment! I never met the dude but I always new he was 100% real I added him in Facebook (Lord rest his soul) he was a great champ, and I learnt a lot about the human condition watching him. He said it best:" I have such a great game plan it goes out the window when I get hit!" God bless you champ. May you be dancing with your mamma in paradise!

"Mi Vida Loca" is one of the most entertaining and lovable fighters of all-times, man.

I'm not even Mexican, but that dude was my guy. I always rooted for him in and out of the ring.

I really wish he would've gotten his happy ending with his wife and kids, man. That kills me.

He deserved that after all this life threw at him.

BTW, did you see how that weirdo pretended to be his biological father, got close to him, and it turns out he was just lying?

I had a neighbor, an honest amateur said Tapia "was one of the smartest boxers, he said dumb was for guys like Mikey Tyson". I used to tell him man, Tyson is smart, not Tapia! Boy I was wrong, his mind was impeccable. ****** is for guys he said "just walking around saying stuff that someone told them to say, or do lol. Like a parrot, being paid to say/do it. Not accusing Tyson of doing this, he too IMO is brilliant as well.

I remember Barrera had Tapia on the back of his trunks and they had to explain it was a reference to something else, apparently his mom's maiden name. I remember them mentioning on HBO that this was especially confusing when Barrera actually fought Johnny Tapia lol.

I loved following Tapia. I always looked forward to when he would be on USA Tuesday night fights or ESPN Thursday night fights back in the late 80's and early 90's. He was a guy you could relate to, an everyday guy. But he was an amazing fighter as well.

I loved following Tapia. I always looked forward to when he would be on USA Tuesday night fights or ESPN Thursday night fights back in the late 80's and early 90's. He was a guy you could relate to, an everyday guy. But he was an amazing fighter as well.
