    RIP Mills Lane

Mills Lane, boxing referee best known for being the ref for the second Holyfield-Tyson fight and Hagler-Mugabi. Did you know he was also a boxer with a 10-1 record with 6 knockouts? http://deathbeeper.com/f/MILLS+LANE

    - - Yes, I did!

R.I.P. Steve Smoger who reffed the post 9/11 reopening of NYC boxing when Bernard Hopkins as he as known then took on Tito Trinidad in a classic ebb and flow slugfest. Smoger was chosen 2nd best ref in a poll of refs, the best being Mills Lane.

The obvious conclusion is Greats of a Feather flocking Together yet again...

One of the few refs who I know, well knew of anyway.

Definitely a legend and legends never really die.

Great catch phrase too "Let's get it on." Loved him on Celebrity Deathmatch.

I think he and Steele involved themselves too much into a fight.

Always thought him (Lane) clean; mixed about Steele.

Would rather have a Steve Smoger or even a less competent Tony Perez.

Rather have a ref who fails to act than one who interferes with the action; with the in-fighting.

Maybe I'm wrong. Does anyone think that Lane would have let Duran fight his fight in Montreal the way Padilla did?

Remember when Mills gave Hopkins a light push and Bhop sold it by falling out of the ring and claimed injury.
