James J Corbett's 3 Best Wins?
Collapse
-
I say they were Choysnki, McCoy, and Mitchell. Historically speaking you have to add Sullivan too. Although is not a win, he got a 61 round draw with Peter Jackson which confirms his quality. His win over Kilrain should rate as significant too. All of the mention names are in the boxing all of fame. Why do I get the feeling you are going to degrade Corbett?Last edited by Dr. Z; 10-11-2022, 08:27 AM.

McCoy less,he weighed 173 for Jack Root 3 years later.Very likely a fix.
"It seems certain that McCoy faked the knockout loss to win bets."
Mitchell 165lbs.
How many men over 175lbs did he beat ?
A nearly 34 years old, 4 and a half years retired ,alcoholic Sullivan.which took him 21 rds
A fat out of shape Kilrain.
"No in-fighting was allowed, which favoured Corbett .[It was noted that just a few days earlier Kilrain and his troupe of boxers and wrestlers were arrested following the accidental death of one Tom James, a citizen of Dallas."

Sullivan may rate among Corbett's top three wins. He is certainly the most famous of Corbett's victories. It's hard to tell with no film of the Corbett fight, let alone film Sullivan fighting in the ring. There is at least no ring film on Sullivan. You can see Sullivan however hitting a bag 18+ years after retirement! There are stories of Sullivan vs Corbett still shots in machine old machine that were viewed in the times. So I've heard, but I have no proof of this.
Sullivan was just 32 years old for the fight and in shape for him at the times. Yet he was badly out classed in fight with Corbett possibly did not win a single round. At least he did not in the mentioned rounds I read. If you think of it, Corbett would be very hard for many famous champions on the10 point must scoring system in 12 rounds fights like we have today.Last edited by Dr. Z; 10-13-2022, 09:18 AM.

Rather he only knows what Box Rec reports. I researched Corbett's ring record by way and he has what many would call " news wins " in several fights where observers thought he was the better. He was something like 30-0 before meeting Fitzsimmons. The names and fighters not are list in box rec!
For the readers who would like to see a round by round report of Corbett vs Sullivan they can view it below.

I count way more the 11 you report! Now how many fights did Corbett win?
By the way the list of wins is from historians and does not include the " news wins " I was talking about.
Corbett's known records. It's way more than 11 wins.

"We it's the truth."
" certain poster has it out for Corbett and has smeared him"
Is this really the best this Moron can do?
NB Exhibitions are NOT fights!
NB Sullivan was born on October the 15th 1858
He fought Corbett on 7th of September 1892 making him 33 ,or one month off of 34.
He had been out of the ring for nearly 4 years.
