1- Among his close fights.
2- Dominant performances.
- - 2 for starters
Consecutively starting age 20 and targeting l'l floydy, Canelo KOed Baldomir, and shut out N'dou and Hatton.
Baldy took l'l floydy the distance, N'dou his sparring partner, and he stole Magic out from under the nose of l'l floydy who was typically lowballing Majic. Hatton was also for the WBC 154 title. Not many 20yrs have such a year.
The win over Cotto was legit. The fight with Lara was close, could have gone either way for me. I thought he beat GGG the second time. Kovalev was legit. Sure Kovalev was old, but the kid moved up by two divisions and knocked him out cold - which nobody else every did. And there were no weight caps or rehydration clauses.
Austin Trout deserves a mention. He was undefeated and had just beaten Miguel Cotto pretty thoroughly. Canelo dropped him, that win stands out for me because I was at the Alamodome to see it live.
Most dominating performance was Billy Joe Saunders.
We'll probably never truly know how good Saunders actually was --- but if he was as good as the hype surrounding him going into the fight, then Canelo was a monster that night.

- - Never knew you to be a Texas boy. Out of SanAntone?

Canelo could beat him 12-0 if his output was a bit higher. Canelo got a bit outlanded. Canelo still won 116-111 or 117-110 imo.

They really the named something the Alamodome?
What is our American obsession with great defeats?
Bunkers Hill, The Alamo; Pickett's Charge, Custer's Last Stand, Renember the Maine, to hell with Spain, The Lost Battalion, Pearl Harbor, Tet Offensive, 911
Why does this country embrace its defeats more than its victories?
Guess it doesn't matter -- wait three years they'll sell out the name to some sneaker or tech company anyway.
*Granted Tet was a tactical victory but we painted it as a strategic defeat because of false expectations.

- - Dunno what fight U was watchin', but Trout a runner/stinker coming off his surprise upset of Cotto vowed to use his Man Strength on 22 yr old Canelo who not only was outboxing him easily in the round by round open scoring for that fight, but knocked him down mid rounds to send him fleeing for his life.
When Trout recovered, Canelo drew him in by backing to the ropes in "fatigue" and proceeded to duck and slip the 3 dozen punches Trout threw, embarrassing. Trout could never recover from that.
That fight landed him on the scales turning blue at dehydrated 152 lbs with a 165lb dehydrated catchweight in the ring 10 lb less than his usual fight weight vs l'l floydy who used Bayless to ride the frustrated Canelo back the first 6 rounds so l'l floydy could rack up rounds where Canelo takes a Majority Decision loss.
That's a premium back to back stretch for Kid Canelo who the last couple of years is just now starting to fight a few boxers near his age..
